A turn based strategy game that started development in 1992!
Welcome to the battlefield general,
"At the end World War III, the superpowers were left decimated. Only a few survived the nuclear exchanges... Year 2116: You are the leader of a nation rising from the ashes of the world. Wrecked lands are now ready to be conquered. These lands, inhabited by starving people, contain the natural resources your empire will need. The people wait for a leader to take charge and put the economy back together."
This is the opening introduction to Skyvens Metal Knights game a turn based strategy game developed for pc and more recently mobile devices. If you like strategy games, empire building or if your just up for trying something new then this is the place for you. I've included an introduction to the game below with some common questions about the game and where to find it. So create an account, build your army and make sure that your great nation doesn't become but a footnote in history...
What is Metal Knights?
Metal knights is a turn based strategy game that first started development in 1992. The aim of the game is to build an empire by capturing cities and harvesting natural resources then defeating the other players by capturing their bases.
How is the game played?
Unlike an rts such as Age of Empires or Starcraft each player must take it in turn to move his units, capture new cities and resources and attack his opponents. Turns can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to complete and likewise you may have to wait anywhere between a few minutes and a few days before you can play your turn again. Rather then relying on fast reflexes or micromanagement the game requires careful thinking, good planning and good observation skills.
Can you play online and what is the community like?
Yes online game play is a key part of metal Knights. To play online all you need to do is create an account by entering a username and password and your good to go! Even after 20 years there is still a functioning (if somewhat small) community and new players are always welcomed. Most of the players I have played against are extremely friendly and were more the happy to drop me a message in game explaining how to play and how I could improve. On average there are about 20 games running at any one time so its very easy to find a game and if not you can always host your own game.
Is the a website for Metal Knights?
Yes of course, the Metal Knights home page is the main site for metal knights. You can download the game for free here and also keep up-to date with the latest Mk news + you can access the FAQ's and take a look at the game units and some screenshots of the game.
So I like the sound of the game and I want to play. Where do I download it and how much does it cost?
You can download the game from the Metal knights home page or by clicking here. The game is free to download, however you can pay to upgrade to a simple or gold registration which does give you a small advantage in game (which I'll explain in a later post and also explained on the website). This costs $16 for a simple registration and $32 for a gold registration. All of the money received from registrations pays for the upkeep of the online servers.
I'm new to the game. Is it hard to learn the basics?
The game is actually relatively simple to play and with a few basic tips you can become quite good in a short space of time. So no, its not hard to learn how to play. However, if you want to become really good and climb up the hall of fame to challenge the Metal Knight for his title, you will need to learn some more advanced tactics and put more hours into the game.
